I'm a student at SMU, and I've been learning both Japanese and Spanish for a while. I like reading, translating, and hanging out with friends. Recently, I've gotten interested in learning Hindi and Korean. This September, I'm going to study abroad at Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan.

this week was an inundation of Japanese!

mixi.

penpals.

blog.

yahoo messenger.

conversation buddy.

Japanese is coming from all directions! soo happy. practice all day!!

I went with Lauryn and Megan to Six Flags on Friday! We rode all the rollercoasters, and were very happy, lol. But riding the Texas Giant (it's a wooden one) was painful! While on it, we were all thinking "ow ow ow ow ow." But the other rollercoasters were fun!

On Saturday, I talked to Japanese people with email and on mixi! I talked with my penpal Kentarou on yahoo messenger, which was way harder than just talking with e-mail. You have to respond so much quicker, so it's good practice!

I was talking with Kentarou about anime and he said "When I took a trip to L.A. on my own, I saw Dragonball Z and Gundam on TV, and was sooo surprised!!" It made me laugh because he was so surprised. I told him people here like putting kanji on everything because they think it looks cool, and that surprised him too. Then, he randomly asked me if I knew what mixi was, and this time I was surprised, lol

Kentarou: yeah, that!
Kentarou: do you have it?
me: yeah, I have it! I registered on Friday! I'm surprised! lol
Kentarou: really?!!!!!!!! let's be mixi friends!!

haha, isn't that cute?

Lauryn was talking with her friend Haru on the internet. At first they were using MSN messenger and typing back and forth, but Haru decided he wanted to talk with real voices. But Lauryn doesn't have a mike, so Haru was talking into his while she was typing back at him. Then Haru said "hey, I can hear you!" and we were soo surprised. Even though she doesn't hame a mike, he could hear us somehow. So we talked to him for about ten minutes. It was interesting...but fun !!
Then we found an awesome Japanese restaurant!
It's called Sushiyama. It's really really good, and tastes like real Japanese food! I went for the yakitori and Lauryn had the zarusoba. The menu was all on the wall, and it had things like okonomiyaki and chasoba, and it's definitely become my favorite Japanese place, lol. And now I'm reaaally hungry. bye! haha

break~

fall break was awesome!

on Saturday, I watched the Japanese movie Tony Takitani with my mom. I wanted to practice listening to Japanese, so I rented it. Tony Takitani is a Japanese guy, and he works as an illustrator. His father was a famous jazz musician, but he caused a bunch of problems so they sent him to jail. Once he got free, he got married, but after giving birth to their son, she died. The father was always going on tour with his band, so Tony had to grow up alone. Since he liked to draw, he started doing illustration work. One day he falls in love with a client, and marries her soon. He grows to love being with people, and becomes afraid of being alone. In order to live happily, the wife has to buy a otn of clothes. Soon they have to turn an entire room into another closet. After about nine months, he asks if she really needs all those clothes, and so she tries to stop, but she can't do it. After she's killed in a car crash, Tony gets depressed, and starts looking for a girl that looks like his wife. He finds one, but he's still not happy. The movie ends there...very weird.

We tried coming back to Dallas on Monday, and the plan was really late. Then it started raining like crazy. After about two hours, we got on a plane going to Lubbock, and got here at about 3:30. However, our luggage was still in Houston, so we had to wait another hour. At about 6:00 we got to the dorm, and now I'm sooo tired. But it's nice being back at SMU.

Listening to everyone's projects was interesting! I was soooo nervous. But it was fun.

I saw the movie called Saved...it's really good!

I've got a bunch of homework and tests next week, so I'm gonna go study. bye!

Fall break

Since it's fall break this weekend, Lauryn and I are going back home! sooo happy. I'll eat (good) food, see friends, chill out...looking forward to it!

This week was really really busy. Bet everyone was the same, cause it's the middle of the semester. Before I go home I've gotta do everything...soo much work.

I've decided I have to study Japanese like crazy from now on...next year is Kwansei Gakuin! I went to sensei's office and borrowed two books...so happy. I want to study Japanese all day, but that wouldn't work out so well. But I'm gonna study while on the plane. Hopefully, if I study a lot more, Japanese'll get easier to understand!

There's a Japanese library in Houston. Before we came to college Lauryn and I went about every month to go borrow books. I used to only be able to read manga, but now I might be able to read fifth grader books. The problem is, when I'm trying to pick one, they all seem kinda boring... There's a ton of books for adults, but those are waaay too hard.

There's also a Japanese grocery store called "Daido" around there. I go there a bunch and buy food. Lauryn and I like to make Japanese food, so we've gone there a ton of times. The people who work there are always happy and smiling. Very good place.

I have to go do stuff now, so byee

been a while!

this weekend was busy, but boring...

After class on Friday Lauryn wanted go to eat at Jamba Juice, so we took my car. When we turned left onto Mockingbird, there were a ton of police cars and ambulances. We didn't know what was going on, so we just kept going. We looked for Jamba Juice for about fifteen minutes, but couldn't find it. Coming back on Mockingbird, I went into Premiere Video (video rental place). For my Spanish class, we have to watch a movie about every week, so I got "Fresas y chocolate (Strawberries and chocolate)." Also, I rented the Japanese movie "Junk Food," and the American movies "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and "Just My Luck." While I was talking to someone who worked there, my friend Damian asked a bunch of people there what was going on with the police cars and firemen. It seems that there was a fire in one of the buildings close to there. After that we came back to SMU, went to eat, and watched Rocky Horror Picture Show at our dorm with six other people. I thought it was kinda boring, but everyone else loved it. After watching the movie, four went back to their own dorms, and there was only three of us left to watch "Just My Luck." I didn't like this movie much either, but the British band in the movie was cool.

I woke up at about 1 on Saturday, and ate breakfast at about 2:30. I went to go buy food at the grocery store, and ended up buying a ton. I eat all day here, so I'll probably end up fat soon, lol. I went back to the dorm, and went with some friends at 7:30 to eat at Oysters on the Half Shell. I hadn't eaten oysters before at all, so I tried some, but I didn't think they were very good.

I've got soo much homework today (ノД`)・゜・。
- study for Japanese vocab quiz
- project for Japanese
- watch movie for Spanish
- read Freud's Five Lectures on Psychoanalysis for English
But I decided to talk about the Kojiki for the Japanese project (really old Japanese book, with a bunch of creation stories - think greek mythology kinda). It seems really interesting, so I want to read it really soon in Japanese. At first I wanted to talk about how the Kojiki was written, but I'm sure everyone would've thought it was boring. Because of that, I decided to talk about both how it was written and the stories.

I should end about there. 。☆彡ヾ(^-^) bye!
